Yet another terrible title, I know I know. Anyway, jen_in_japan is to blame for this one, after this post introduced me to the crack that is Pink Kryptonite. This is by no means even close to my strongest writing; I was going through a serious block at the time and it was very difficult to produce, which I think shows. I might come back and revisit it one day. Maybe. Probably not.
Kryptonian Lesson Drabble

on the timeline and he's Bruce's lover. His memories remain
unchanged, so he doesn't know what changed or who changed them, but
he's not too keen on his new relationship. Bruce notices Clark is
not the one he remembers, and together they try to fix the
time-stream, knowing that by changing it they will bring it back to
the way Clark remembers it, and in the meantime, they fall in love
again. They fix the time line and that present disappears. Clark
must decide if he goes to his time-line Bruce after that or returns
to his normal life.

The story is set about 200 years after the end of the comic book series, in the post-apocalyptic federation that emerged in North America after the War of the Dead. The western region, called the Broken States, are still loosely under the control of a living administration, though the central government doesn't exert much power outside the new capitol, San Francisco, and the region is more like a collection of feudal warlords, protection rackets, and tiny semi-lawless settlements. The Broken States are in a lot of trouble, and are constantly on the verge of collapsing into civil war. The only thing that arguably stops them is the presence of the Psychotic States (the PsyStat); the historic lands of the Dead. Controlled by the Dead King from his seat in Necropolis, the PsyStat is prosperous and peaceful; the gestalt nature of the Deadmind means an endless supply of strong, loyal, unwavering 'shamblers' (semi-mindless zombies) to perform menial tasks, and an equally endless supply of clever, immortal, loyal ghouls to do everything else. The Deadmind has officially renounced violence and its state policy is to live peacefully alongside humanity and not seek to further expand its territory. In practice, this doesn't always happen, especially in the fraught No Man's Land between the two territories. Generally, the PsyStat is good to its small living population, but the reverse is rarely true.
Aftermath Fragment
Fairly close to the start of the story, but picking up after Gil and Ernie/Evil have met and started out across the country to hunt down the Mysterious Figures (gasp) who hired Gil to (unwittingly) dig up Evil in the tiny town of Haven.
